car survival kit, in case of emergency?

my fiance and i are putting together survival kits! we want to put a kit in each one of our vehicles.
this pack needs to be light weight and portable in the event we have to ditch our cars! and its going to need to have appropriate supplies to get us home and im going to say at least enough supplies to last 72 hours outside of the home.
could you list some suggestions? thanks.

It is a great idea to think, plan and prepare for the possibility of a disaster. No matter where you live there is the potential for something to happen and experts recommend that everyone have a survival kit with 3 days (72 hours) of supplies since that is the maximum amount of time that someone would most likely be without help or services and need to be able to take care of themselves. There are lots of ready made kits that you can add personal items to like eyeglasses, prescriptions, spare shoes, extra clothing, etc. or you can buy a backpack and put together the whole thing yourself.
